‘Stop bullying Manny Pacquiao’

pac

‘Mommy D’ says sorry for Pacquiao

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Amid backlash, a few members of the LGBT community in General Santos City cheered for Team Pacquiao in a basketball game in the city.

Homer Kindat, a member of the LGBT community, said he was hurt by Manny Pacquiao’s statement, but he still respects the fighting congressman.

“Opinion niya yun sa sitwasyon about same sex marriage so naiintidihan ko po. Kanya kanya tayo ng paniniwala,” said Kindat.

Many expressed their disgust over Pacquiao when he compared people engaged in same-sex relationships to animals.

In a tweet, Tony Award-winning Broadway star Leah Salonga said homosexuality is visible to more than 400 species.

TV host Boy Abunda also expressed anger in his program.

“Manny, sino ka? Sino ka para maghusga? Saan ka kumuha ng kapangyarihan para tawagin kami na masmasahol pa sa mga hayop? Palagay n’yo ba, sa mga kababayan ko dito sa studio sa inyo sa mga bahay, iboboto ko ba ang isang tao na ang tingin sa kin ay hindi tao?” said Abunda.

“Manny ang kasagutan sa salita mo: common sense.”

Pacquiao sought forgiveness for what he said.

“Humihingi ako ng pasensya, ng paumanhin… Sa mga nasaktan sa paggamit ko sa pagkumpara sa tao, sa hayop. Pasensya na po, humihingi ako ng paumanhin sa inyong lahat,” said the boxer.

Other LGBT celebrities, such as Vice Ganda accepted his apology. But the comedian said he still won‘t vote for Pacquiao.

But to LGBT leader Cris Lopera who is based in GenSan, he will only accept the apology if Pacquiao will push for the Anti-Discrimination Bill in Congress and even in the city council of GenSan.

“The best way to say sorry is to do a concrete action, Congressman Manny Pacquiao,” said Lopera, executive director of SHINE Socsksargen.

Meanwhile, Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao came to her son’s rescue. She apologized for her son’s gay slur.

“Hindi man sinasadya ni Manny, sorry. Ako nang nanay humihingi ng paumanhin, kung ano mang ilait nyo sa kin, tanggapin ko yan,” she said.

She also appealed to netizens to stop attacking Pacquiao on social media.

“Mommy D” admitted the controversial statement might affect his son’s candidacy but most important for the family is for his son to acknowledge his mistake and to do his best not to do it again.

Zab Judah to spar with Floyd Mayweather starting Monday

ZAB JUDAH TO SPAR WITH FLOYD MAYWEATHER STARTING MONDAY

“Come Monday, we’re going to work,” stated two-division former world champion Zab Judah, who confirmed that he’ll be reporting to training camp to spar with undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather as he prepares for his upcoming May 2 mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao. Although Judah hasn’t fought since December of 2013, the fast handed southpaw has continued to train in hopes of making an eventual return to the ring.
Judah and Mayweather shared the ring back in April of 2006. There were many who had Judah winning the first four rounds of that fight until Mayweather was able to adjust and dominate down the stretch. There’s no doubt that Judah will provide good work for Mayweather.

PACQUIAO OUT TO PROVE HIS DETRACTORS WRONG

By Eddie Alinea, PhilBoxing
MANILA (PNA) – Boxing Treasure Manny Pacquiao starts his long, 10-week preparation Monday for his coming comeback fight with Brandon Rios when he plunges into serious training at his own Wild Card Gym here.

He knows there’s no room for complacency in his encounter with the American, reason, he said why he designed what the longest build up program in his career in an effort to vault back from a twin defeats he suffered last year and prove to all and sundry that he still has what it takes to fight.

The fight is set November 24 Manila time at the posh Venetian Resort Hotel in Macau.

“I know that not a few have already been counting me out and I want to prove them wrong,” the soon-to-be 35 year-old told this writer in Tagalog after a basketball game Wednesday night at the British School-Manila where his Team Pacquiao beat twice Team Zamboanga in a pair of goodwill games for ‘Peace in Zamboanga City.’

“Rios is a dangerous fighter, as dangerous as the others I fought before, kaya naman dapat nating paghandaan mabuti lalo na ngayong kailangan kong muling patunayan that my career is not yet on the downslide as many are saying,” the only man to win eight world championships in as many weight division uttered.

Pacquiao, who lost to Tim Bradley via a questionable split decision and to arch-nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez on a stunning sixth round knockout in his twin 2012 appearances atop the ring, has, actually been undergoing light training consisting of playing basketball and sporadic appearances on the ring the past two weeks while shuttling back and forth from Manila to General Santos City.

“Pero ngayon, seryoso na ang ensayo, I want that when Freddie (Roach, his trainer) comes next month, nasa kondisyon na ako para tumagal sa programang inihanda niya para sa laban,” Pacquiao said.

Roach, along with his choice sparring partners in the General Santos camp – up-and-coming Chinese Lian Hui and Korean-based Briton Liam Vaughan – will be arriving October 7.

Roach, as quoted earlier by Filipino assistant Marvin Somodio, said focus of training will be on how Pacquiao can knockout Rios.

Until Roach’s arrival, training regimen under the watchful eyes of assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez, will be roadwork at the Acharon Sports Complex oval in the morning and gym activities in the afternoon.

Pacquiao reaffirmed his decision against pitching camp in Baguio City, which had been a highlight of his preparations in many of his previous fights, saying there’s no need for a high-altitude training.

Reports though are that the cold weather in Macau in November is in the proximity of Baguio. Pacquiao will actually dividing his time between training and his responsibilities as a congressman representing the Province of Sarangani.

“Matter of time management lang naman yan. The reason, precisely, why I chose to pitch camp here is to be near my constituents so I can address their problems,” he reasoned out. “At saka para mapalapit ako sa pamilya ko, sa mga anak ko at kay Jinkee.”

A PACMAN WIN OVER RIOS WILL FORGE THE PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER DREAM BOUT

(mannypinol.com) — Just when many thought that Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will simply disappear into the horizon following his two successive losses, Floyd Mayweather’s easy win over Mexican Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas today has suddenly propped up the Pacman as the only legitimate challenger to the undefeated American champion.

As expected, Mayweather, 36, cruised over the young Mexican contender and further solidified his claim to be the Number 1 Boxer in the world, record wise and earnings wise, with a majority decision victory.

Were it not for the questionable 114-114 score of Judge CJ Ross, the fight was no doubt one-sided in favor of the American champion.

Judge Dave Moretti gave the bout to Mayweather 116-112 and Dave Metcalf had it 117-111.

With Mayweather’s victory over Alvarez today, all that is needed to forge the clash of two great boxers the world has been waiting to witness for years now, is for Pacquiao to prevail over Mexican-American Brandon “Bambam” Rios.

Early indications show that the Pacman will most likely dominate the slugger Rios.

When that assignment is accomplished on Nov. 24 in Cotai, Macau, the boxing world will be abuzz again with the prospect of the biggest boxing match in the history of the sport.

All hindrances set aside and resolved, including the vociferous opposition of Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum to even the talk of a Mayweather-Pacquiao bout, the Mega Fight which could earn both fighters no less than $50-M each could happen by 2014.

By that time, Pacquiao will already be free from his promotional contract with Arum and he could engage Mayweather in more viable negotiations which could lead to the real Clash of the Titans.

BIR says Pacquiao paid less than P7M in taxes for 2010

MANILA, Philippines – Sarangani congressman and 8-division boxing champ Manny Pacquiao paid less than P7 million (approximately US$162,999) in income taxes for year 2010, the chief of the Bureau of Internal Revenue said Wednesday.

BIR Commissioner Kim Henares declined to give the exact figure of Pacquiao’s tax payments for 2010 but said that “it is lower than P7 million.”

She confirmed that the boxing champ paid P7 million in taxes in 2009, from a high of P100 million in 2008.

Pacquiao earlier declared assets at the end of 2010 at P1.13 billion ($26.3 million) and no liabilities, making him the wealthiest member of the House of Representatives.

Forbes.com magazine estimated he spent $7 million in his election campaign in 2010 while also earning $35 million for his two fights against Joshua Clottey and Miguel Cotto.

Pacquiao has accused the BIR of harassment after it sued the boxing champ for contempt for failure to submit copies of his endorsement contracts and TV deals. He urged the BIR to fire Cotabato Revenue Regional Director Rozel Lozares for filing a case against him.

His lawyer, Abraham Espejo, claimed the boxing champ lost several endorsement deals in the United States because of the tax case.

The BIR chief, however, said she cannot fire Lozares since he followed correct procedure in asking for Pacquiao’s contracts.

“[Pacquiao] has a book of accounts so he has to present that. He also has endorsements so he has to submit his contracts. He has a TV show. He has to submit his contract for that. He said he paid the [Internal Revenue Service]. Then show us the receipts,” Henares told radio dzMM.

Henares said she is surprised that Pacquiao is making a fuss over the tax case when he could just easily submit copies of his contracts. Among the documents the BIR is asking for are Pacquiao’s contracts for his 2010 fights against Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito.

Pacquiao also reportedly owns a shopping mall, a building-for-rent, restaurant, beauty salon, convenience store, and a water refilling station in General Santos City.

The BIR filed charges against Pacquiao early March after the boxer allegedly snubbed the agency’s summons to submit certain documents. Pacquiao was charged with violation of Section 266 of the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC), and if convicted, he can be fined as much as P10,000 and imprisoned for two years.

Henares denied that Lozares held a press conference to announce the filing of a tax case against Pacquiao.

“We had a kickoff ceremony in Koronadal for our tax campaign, which had a presscon afterwards. The media were the first to know about the filing of the case and they asked…It wasn’t a press conference just for Pacquiao,” she said.

She also rejected Pacquiao’s claim that Lozares should have sent the BIR’s summons to Sarangani, where he is congressman, instead of General Santos City.

She said Pacquiao has yet to transfer his tax residency status to Sarangani.

Henares is also puzzled by Pacquiao’s claim that he does not know the person who received the BIR’s summons.

“If he did not know the person who received the letter, how could he be sending his lawyer and his accountant to our office? That means he knows the person,” she said. (ABS-CBN, with reports from radio dzMM and Agence France-Presse)

My son wants me to beat Mayweather, says Pacquiao

Boxing champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao said he won’t be retiring immediately as his fans and even his son continue to urge him to fight undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd’s adviser tells White to mind his own business
Leonard Ellerbe, the adviser of undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., fired back at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White in defense of his boxer.

White recently slammed Mayweather for his racist comments directed towards New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin and Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

“Yes, Floyd, you’re racist with the stuff that you said,” White said in a UFC video entitled “Presidential Address.”

But Ellerbe told Yahoo! Sports that White needs “to shut the (expletive) up and mind his own business.”

“(White needs to) stay in his own lane and keep on taking advantage of the UFC fighters, while underpaying them,” Ellerbe added.

Ellerbe threatened that if White continues his criticism of Mayweather, “we may decide to give a free seminar to all of the UFC fighters on how the pay-per-view revenue should be distributed.”

White also told Mayweather to stop tweeting and instead try to make the fight with Pacquiao, but Ellerbe dismissed his words.

“This is typical Dana, who is always prone to ignorant outbursts. He should be the last person to try to judge someone else,” Ellerbe said.

In response, White sent a message to Yahoo! Sports telling Ellerbe to “shut the (expletive) up (because) I wasn’t talking to you.”

“I was talking to Floyd. We’re doing something amazing. We’re building a sport while you guys are destroying one,” he added. (abs-cbn news, ANC)

Pacquiao camp says he hasn’t made a decision for next opponent

Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao has not made a decision regarding his next boxing opponent, the boxer’s adviser, Michael Koncz, said Monday.

This is contrary to reports that Pacquiao had already chosen his next opponent, although his promoter, Top Rank chief executive officer Bob Arum, has remained tight-lipped about it.

“We have not made a decision,” Koncz said in an interview with Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz. “We are not rushing.”

Arum was in the Philippines last week to present Pacquiao with four choices: Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto, Lamont Peterson, or Timothy Bradley, Jr.

But last Wednesday, unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. fired off a series of tweets challenging Pacquiao to a much-awaited mega-fight on May 5.

Pacquiao’s camp responded that they prefer to fight at the end of May for “economic reasons.”

Pacquiao’s wife, Jinkee, was also quoted as saying that the boxer wants to fight Cotto for the second time.

But Koncz clarified her statement, saying, “(Manny) liked the idea of Cotto. She (Jinkee) didn’t say we were doing Cotto. That’s the difference.”

Arum agreed with Koncz, telling Boxing Scene that “(t)here’s no real hurry.”

“Everything is proceeding, everything is going well. There have been developments and we’ll have to see where everything is going,” Arum added. (ABS-CBN News)

Pacquiao vs Mayweather mega-fight could happen on May 5, 2012

By CARLO L. PAMINTUAN

Another twist to the Floyd Mayweather incarceration issue happened just hours ago. The reigning WBC welterweight champion of the world was supposed to be going to jail today for 90 days. However, his lawyers convinced the judge handling the case to delay the sentence until June 1.

The judge said that she was not aware that Mayweather’s camp had a contract with HBO about holding a fight on May 5. Now that Mayweather will remain a free man until June 1, talks about a possible match against Manny Pacquiao have surfaced yet again. Mayweather is still expected to attend counselling and community service. The judge added that Mayweather will head straight to jail if he misses any of his appointments.

Since the 90 day jail term for Mayweather was announced, Pacquiao and his team looked elsewhere for possible opponents. Some of those taken into consideration were Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley, Lamont Peterson, and Miguel Cotto but since Mayweather is now available, the boxing world will not accept any of those four as Pacquiao’s next opponent.

In recent interviews, Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions has said that he is not “married to May 5” hinting that he is open to holding a Pacquiao fight on another date. However, Arum also said that May 5 will be his top choice if Pacquiao fight Marquez again as this is a big Mexican holiday.

The delay of Mayweather’s jail term was viewed positively by the boxing world as most fans felt that this was the only hurdle preventing the biggest fight of this generation in Pacquiao versus Mayweather. However, it also received some criticism from some sectors. Some people have commented that Mayweather should not be allowed to dictate the terms of his incarceration.

Minutes after the news of Mayweather’s postponed jail term broke out, comments supposedly from Arum sprung out. Writer David Mayo tweeted that according to Arum, Mayweather’s delayed sentence has no impact as Pacquiao won’t be available until June because of the cut he suffered in the last fight against Marquez.

What I don’t understand about this supposed statement from Arum is that in his last interview, he semed to have no problem having Pacquiao fight Marquez on May 5. Now that Mayweather is available, Arum is suddenly changing his mind about May 5. I am not privy to information about the cut and I am no doctor but right now, I’d have to say that this seems like an excuse from Arum.

But i still think there’s a chance that the fight we have all been waiting for will push through this May and that is if Pacquiao himself demands Arum to make the fight. The Top Rank head honcho will be flying to the Philippines in a couple of days and Pacquiao should let him know that he wants the fight against Mayweather in May. — OMG, GMA News

Three-month jail sentence for Mayweather delayed so he can fight

LAS VEGAS — A judge granted a request from boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr to postpone until June his three-month jail sentence for domestic battery so the welterweight champion can compete in an upcoming bout, prosecutors said.

The ruling by Las Vegas Judge Melissa Saragosa on Friday came on the same day Mayweather was originally scheduled to turn himself in and begin serving his term.

“We opposed the request and felt he should surrender as originally planned,” said Tess Driver, a spokeswoman for the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted the case.

Mayweather, 34, a flamboyant boxer regarded as the best defensive fighter of his generation, is scheduled to battle an undetermined opponent on May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

An attorney for World Boxing Council welterweight champion Mayweather asked the judge to postpone the sentence so he could train and compete for that May 5 fight, Driver said.

Some in the boxing world have speculated the bout could pit Mayweather against World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, which would be the most highly anticipated fight in years.

But the Filipino Pacquiao’s promoter has made comments to the media casting doubt on whether that match-up will occur.

The jail sentence Mayweather faces stems from a case in which he pleaded guilty last month to one charge of felony battery and no contest to two counts of harassment stemming from a 2010 attack on his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris and verbal threats against two of his children with Harris.

Mayweather was sentenced to six months for that outburst, but the judge suspended half the jail term.

The judge’s decision to delay the jail term was also expected to benefit hotels and businesses that typically profit from a major prize fight, which can generate $10 million to $15 million in non-gambling revenue, said Jeremy Handel, spokesman for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
